European Mountain Village Football Championship –
the craziest football tournament in the Alps

Inspired by the idea of creating a «little brother» to the official European Football Championship, the small Swiss village of Staldenried-Gspon launched the inaugural «Bergdorf-EM» tournament in 2008, in parallel with the main European Championship held in Switzerland and Austria. This unique sporting event took place on the highest football pitch in Europe, the Ottmar Hitzfeld GsponArena, at 2008 metres.
Since then, every four years, mountain football teams all over Europe have come together in their national kit, singing their national anthems, to challenge each other and compete to become «European Mountain Village Football Champion»!
Spain went on to win the first European Mountain Village Football Championship 2008 in Gspon after a victory in the final against Sweden. In 2012 again Spain celebrated a second victory after beating the Czech Republic in the final.
